History of the holiday
This day appeared on the calendar after a unit to combat the theft of socialist property and speculation was created as part of the NKVD of the USSR in 1937. Over time, the structure changed, and now economic security functions are performed by units of the Main Directorate of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (GUEBiPK).
Tasks of the units
The main task of the economic security units is to combat economic crimes such as:
Corruption and bribery;
Fraud in the financial sector;
Theft of public funds;
Illegal entrepreneurial activity;
Crimes related to money laundering;
Counterfeit production and trade.
